View Full Version : Options out of the Big City?

I'm about to graduate from the Savannah College of Art and Design with a degree in Film and Television. Until recently Sound Design was only offered as a minor.

The general consensus, around here, at least, is that the best way to get into the business is to get in anywhere you can. If you're only offered a job running errands for post production facility, then it's better to start there than, say, running camera for the local news or selling stereos at Circuit City.

All of the job opportunities I'm seeing are New York and LA. And while I don't have anything against those towns, I can't see myself striking off for the big city just yet. I'm about to get married, and my fiance has a couple more years of phramacy school left.

What kind of opportunities are there outside of those two metropolitan centers? Especially the Southeastern United States?

Do any of you have any suggestions?

Knoxville has a very thriving industry. Behind NYC, LA and Chicago is Knoxville when it comes to TV Production. There is certainly a lack of good audio mixers/designers/engineers here, with at least three different companies making lots of TV programs all the time.

Good Luck,
