To Whom it May Concern,
I am a senior Audio major at Emerson College who will be in the Burbank area for my next (and last) semester. I am very interested in pursuing a career in feature film audio post production, specifically sound effects editing and design. During this semester I need to find a place to internship, but using Emerson's search my field of interest had minimal hits for internship opportunities. I am currently looking at interning for Milan Records in an effort to learn more about music and soundtrack acquisitions for film and tv, but I would prefer something more related to sound design. Could someone kindly point me in the right direction for an internship where i would be able to be mentored by someone and really learn something about a career in this field? I will be taking classes at Emerson during my time of internship to finish up, and ideally would like to move to this area upon graduation. During my time at Emerson, I have been doing mostly film and video editing on AVID systems, and sound mixing and designing in Pro Tools. I am comfortable mixing for both stereo 2.1 and 5.1.

If anyone knows of any audio post houses, or individuals, in need of an intern that fits my description, please do not hesitate to let me know. I am looking for something within a 30 min drive of Burbank. Thank you for your help, it is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
christopher Rucinski

Most of the companies that deal with interns do not pay them. Since you are a student you may be able to get class credit for the work, though. Most of the companies use the interns as glorified runners, although you may also get a chance to watch editors and occasionally mixers at work and learn from that. It is extremely unlikely you would get to do any real post work.

Internships fill up very fast; anything for this academic year was probably filled before the summer even began. I know that Danetracks uses interns, and I know that Echo used to use them before they became Technicolor Sound Services, I don't know if they still do. The other major company in town is Ascent Media. Again, I don't know if they use interns. I do not know of any post internships at the studios.

Good luck,
