Reflecting the increasing diversity of its membership, the Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) has announced the election of its new officers, which includes four women and its first African-American officer. After nine years as a board member, Bobbi Banks has been elected Vice-President of the organization. Devon Curry has been elected Treasurer. Re-elected were Lisa Ramirez, Secretary, and Solange Schwalbe, Sergeant-at-Arms.

Also elected was new president David Bondelevitch. Bondelevitch is the first music editor to be elected president of the organization. He is also a lecturer at the USC School of Cinema-Television and a member of the Cinema Audio Society. “I hope we are able to encourage a better sense of community within the branches of the post-production community,” Bondelevitch stated.

Newly elected to two-year terms on the Board of Directors are Midge Costin, Scott Haller, Michael Ryan, Glenn Morgan, and Frank Morrone. Re-elected were Jim Corbett, Suhail Kafity, Mark Lanza, Maciek Malish, F. Hudson Miller, Todd Niesen, Marc Perlman, and Chris Reeves.

They join existing board members Fred Burke, Gary Friedman, Elliott Koretz, Cliff Latimer, Maggie Ostroff, Albert Lord III, Steven Saltzman, Maurice Schell, Robert Sephton, and Robert Ulrich.

The MPSE recently celebrated its fiftieth year as an organization. It is dedicated to improving recognition of its members by educating the entertainment community as to the artistic merit of sound editing. They host the annual MPSE “Golden Reel” Awards each year. The 51st annual show will be held February 28, 2004 in the Los Angeles Ballroom of the Century Plaza Hotel, Los Angeles, California.
