I am copying you on an event that is happening this Saturday, August 23.

This is an event that is being held by the Los Angeles Sapphire Group. This
is an eclectic audio group that meets monthly and has it's origins in the
Record Industry but includes persons from all areas of the audio industry.

Each August we have a field trip and lunch. Below are details on this
Saturday's Get together. Everyone is welcome and feel free to pass this
invite along to those that you think would be interested.

=================================
Hi Folks:

Here are the details on our annual Sapphire August Field Trip.
We have a really great program.

The program will be at USC School of Cinema/Television and will be presented
by Tom Holman. Tom is a Professor at USC and past Technical Director at
Lucasfilm and inventor of the widely implemented THX Theatre Program.

A synopsis of his program is presented here:

Cinema sound systems have evolved rapidly over the last 25 years,
incorporating many analog then digital improvements, followed by changing
design requirements due to the popularity of stadium seating. How to
evaluate, tune, and test systems is the emphasis of this talk and
demonstration. Tomlinson Holman has been at this for about 23 years,
since coming from the consumer electronics industry into cinema sound.
He has developed custom methods of evaluating sound systems and will
discuss these and some results of the methods in this talk. His most
recent work was just two weeks ago in installing a TMH 10.2 channel
system in the flagship theater of the Malco Chain, Cinema Paradiso, in
Memphis, TN.
======================
Tom will demonstrate the tuning and frequency response of the Norris Theatre
which will be the location for this program. (Details below)

In addition to Tom's program we will hear Dolby Digital and DTS motion
picture content.

Following the Norris Theatre program other members of the Cinema Department
will be available to give tours of the Spielberg Scoring Stage and other
locations that have recently installed Euphonic Digital Consoles. (These are the
consoles that Sapphire member Ken Hirsch has installed.)

For the Food situation I suggest eating across the street from USC (North Side)
at University Village. There is a food court with all kinds of food choices.
Gather there at 12 Noon and get together and eat lunch.

There is parking at University Village to the North of Campus and at USC. For
USC parking you can enter the McClintock Gate (Gate 5) and pay a small fee to
park and then walk across the street for lunch. There are campus maps that you
can get from the Guard at Gate 5. (Parking at USC is the safest as I don't know
how well patrolled University Village is for long term parking "violators".)

Clicking on the following link will give you the Mapquest Map for the location:

Ok Here is a recap of the Details:
