Dear list members,
I deeply apologize for advertising a (simple) indie sound job for the measly day rate of $275. How could I? Besides the one member who'd be fitting perfectly but could only cover one day, others either suggested friends (who never mixed before as I found out) or just sent harrassing emails like dgek@aol.com who also gave unasked for production advice. A real gent!

I somewhat wonder where this people like him live. They just pop up from out of nowhere and expect union rates to be paid? Student shorts often pay nothing (because they just don't have it) and use PAs or whoever is on location - something every real sound mixer can only laugh aboutthe $275 day rate. That's funny.

So, how the hell are all these expert sound mixers starting out? Are they born into eternal wisdom? Do they start small? No!

get real, keenast

its not bad thing to work for free on students films ,sometimes it even better than thos which i deal for living .but there is a way to ask people to do something almost for free .dont expect that people will love the way this advertising was written.

Nobody's talking about free, and to call $275/day 'almost free' is quite humorous, n'est pas?
The people don't have to love the way this advertising was written. It clearly states the facts and that's it. If you think the price of carrots at Ralphs is to high, well, don't buy. But then again you can also go to the manager and complain - won't change ****, but hey....what an attitude!

BTW, just came back from a session at FOTOKEM and they say that since mid of June business is DEAD....good that at least all sound people are working and even have time to send harassing emails like this one guy.....

oh well, whatever, keenast

I think the problem is this-

Most of the people who frequent this messageboard are professionals, not students (I might be wrong, though!)

And yes, compared to what I/we would normally make on a 1 day video shoot, $275 is nothing. One lav getting the head ripped off of the cable can cost $275 to replace.
