Hi all,

my name is Andrea and I am a full-time sound engineer. I have been involved in sound for 15 years as a musician, live sound engineer, studio recording engineer and sound designer for theatre. I have done a few courses in sound engineering here in Australia and overseas. Last year I attended a short course at the Autralian Film Tele and Radio School in Location Sound and I started to be involved in a few projects as Boom Op. Sound Recordist and Sound Editor/Designer. I would like to apply for a full-time course at the AFTRS in Sydney where they offer Grad Diploma in Location Recording and Master of Art in Sound Design. Here is the question: although I am a really passionate and talented (so they say) sound designer, I am not really sure about the employment opportunities in the real market. I also love the sound recordist role and I have the feeling that as a location recordist it would be easier to find a job in the industry after finishing the school.

Could you please tell me your opinion?

Thanx in advance

Ciao

The reason you haven't gotten any answers might be because there aren't very many CAS members with experience in your part of the world. However, you will find Aussie mixers and post people in the rec.arts.movies.production.sound newsgroup.

Hi Jayrose,

thanx for your help, I have just subscribed to the group.
However it would be helpful to have an opinion from professional people who are not living in the southern emisphere, considering that I am a EU citizen and I can work in Europe too.
