Hey all,

I am wondering if there are any Canadians out there living and working in LA or San Francisco in sound design. I currently work at a facility in Toronto that specializes in audio for television and radio commercials and some long format television work. As many of you are probably aware, there doesn't seem to be much opportunity here in Canada for those wanting to enter into the sound design realm for film and video games. I am wondering if there is anybody out there who made a successful transition from working in Canada to living and working in the U.S. as a sound designer?

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks! :D

Hi George,

Video games here in Canada are becoming a greater industry. With Ubisoft opening in Montreal, I think you are in a very good position to acquire work there.

Thanks for the lead Ron. Are you working out of Montreal? I have actually decided to pursue indie film here in Toronto first as a way to meet up and coming directors. Who says that there can't be great sound designers in Canada??

I figure I can work in Toronto until I get more contacts in the film industry and work hard at doing a good job and pushing myself to exceed expectations...

George.

Hi George,

I'm located in Vancouver.

Indie films are a great way to make connections, as I'm currently learning doing location sound.

Toronto is even better location for indie film work as there seems to be double or triple the amount of indie filmwork in TO as suppose to Vancouver.
