Hi guys! Very soon from now I will purchase new location mixer. I read about that, that David Lee is using Mackie 1604-VLZ PRO and he is very happy with that. What are you people think?I live and work in Croatia and situation here is no good to buy 10000$ peace of equipment, because I will have to work 1 year to earn just what I gived. For difference in price compare to other mixers that are used in the field, I can purchase two good mics. Till now I didn't use any mixer so this will be my first baby. I usually use NAGRA D or FOSTEX PD-4. One more question: Does anybody know David Lee's E-mail because I have some question about his setup with that mixer. Thanx in advance.
P.S.
What is yours recomendation?

How's Zagreb? I was there with a theatre festival in 89, stayed at the Grand hotel. I remember the kids playing life sized chess in the square....

Well to you point. You might look at the Sound Devices mixers. They might be a better match. I know folks who use both the Mackie and Beheringer and have had good sucsess. But they arn't realy designed for production Audio so you have to make some compromises.

The Mackie is very cost-effective, but it it not really convenient for production in terms of size, power, and signal path, and it is not the quietest mixer. I would go to Coffey's web site and look at some of the portable mixers designed for production work. They are much more expensive, though.

Two years ago I purchased the Audio Developments AD149 mixer as my primary panel mixer. It is a full-featured model, probably a WHOLE LOT more that you want to spend if you are looking at Mackies etc. BUT, in the process of searching for my AD149, I looked up other Audio Developments panel mixers and saw that they have a couple much more affordable models (i.e. AD245) that still have a few very essential features that Mackies /Behringers etc do not have--not to mention much higher-quality signal paths, headroom .... Audio Developments website: http://www.audio.co.uk/

Their U.S. distriburtor (at least when I purchased) is Independent Audio in Portland, Maine.

Good Luck!

Hi,
don't throw your NAGRA away, you can use it as Mic pre for 2-3 Channels.
