Does anyone know any sound guys in Vancouver?
No one seems to want to talk to me or reply to emails. This is starting to get frustrating and interviewing these people is crucial for me to get funding to go back to school, as school is VERY expensive.

Have you tried to contact IATSE Local 891 ?
Here is their phone number: 604-664-8910. Tell them what you are doing and they can either put you in touch with Mixers, or they will have them reach you.
Good Luck
Thanks for the reply, Ellis.
I thought about contacting the union, but I wasn't sure if they would help me out. But I'll give them a shot.
Thanks again.
Apparently, Local 891 doesn't have a specific department for Sound, they told me if I had any correspondence to send it to the union hall and they will give it to the Sound Department at their next meeting.
891 has a members list on their website, listing the email addresses and resumes of the members. I've emailed a few of them, but haven't received any replies back.
Anymore suggestions???

Why don't you write a letter to the attention of Sound Mixers in their local.
Unfortunately the management of Local 891, Vancouver is very bureaucratic.
They will continue to act this way until the value of the Canadian dollar is too high for the US producers to flock up there and hire "cheap" labor. When the americans stop coming, watch how approachable they'll become !
Good luck but keep trying.
Thanks for the reply Ellis. I got all the interviews. These guys are pretty hard to get ahold of. Which is a good sign about the industry I guess.

Hey Ron...
I'm from Van.
Most sound people are working their asses off 14plus hr 6-7 days a week and are having trouble enough getting their jobs done let alone to have time to talk to you. This business can be very frustrating. So be patient. School can be very expensive and I don't reccomend it as you'll end up with a huge student loan and no job. You won't get hired based on your "diploma" from a school. You'll get hired on what you know, and who you are and how you do things. (plus who you know). The union here has only an editing department of which a few are Sound members. I've been in the union for over 12 years and have never worked a union job (I think there has only been 1 that has come thru as a union job). So the union is no the place to ask.
So that all being said.
What are your questions.
Kerry
Thanks for the reply Kerry. Sorry for the delayed response.
I'm currently in school now. I've basically taken the attitude I'll go where the work is and not necessarily stay in Vancouver.
